The Chef

Joseph (Joe) Nocella has deep rooted family traditions that have allowed him to enjoy a confident culinary career since the time he experienced watching both his Mother and Grandmother make Sunday Gravy. Chef Joe developed this relationship with food and family over a period of time that sparked his curiosity, senses and skills throughout the years and brought his core cooking excellence from the people he loved most and came to understand as Italian immigrants; resulting in the Nocella Family’s own nurtured version of simply awesome Italian American Fare.

Chef Nocella a graduate of both Rutgers University and the Restaurant School in Philadelphia combined his education and core cooking skills to excel at Catelli Ristorante in Vorhees, NJ and then as Executive Chef at La Scala’s Restaurant and Bar in Historical Philadelphia. His passion for his grandparents native Abruzzi and Naples has driven Chef Joe to provide the freshest product and most savory Italian American fare that has kept La Scala’s guests coming back for the last five years.

Now Chef Joe takes on the challenge of Rocchino’s and Azione exploring the creative side of his traditional roots. Chef Joe has dipped back into the family recipe book and brought back some “classics” to be enjoyed at Azione “Where every day is Sunday” and Rocchino’s to just have some fun and enjoy cooking!
